Divider imageErnest Gonzales Remixing and Remixed; Sophomore LP Due In February

Ernest Gonzales

Ernest Gonzales has had a busy 2009. In addition to running Exponential Records, he’s added his touch on a slew of remixes, most recently for Sunny Day In Glasgow.

Now he’s prepared to release his sophomore LP Been Meaning To Tell You in February, 2010. It’s the first full-length on the LA-based Friends of Friends imprint, who will also publish a book of original art as a companion to the music in addition to 180 gram clear vinyl via Tall Corn Music. FoF put out Gonzales’ Self Awakening EP in October to whet our appetite, and XLR8R posted the lead track.

For more information, check out BeenMeaningToTellYou.com, and take a listen to Mexicans With Guns‘ remix of “I’m Here You’re There.”

Divider imageTempo No Tempo Get Picked Up On Rolling Stone’s Hype Monitor

temponotempo

It’s been a big week for Bay Area post-punkers Tempo No Tempo, who surfaced on RollingStone.com’s Hype Monitor and debuted “Get Down Stay Down” on Big Stereo. The track is off of their self-released LP, entitled Waking Heat, and representative of their angular guitars, dubby melodic basslines and crazy polyrhythms.

They have four California shows left in December, and it should be the perfect opportunity to pick up the clear, limited-run vinyl pressing of Waking Heat recently featured by the LA Weekly’s INCHES column. Alternatively, you can always find their wax here.

On tour:
December 11, 2009 | San Diego, CA @ Che Cafe w/ Grooms
December 12, 2009 | Los Angeles, CA @ The Courtyard w/ Grooms and 60 Watt Kid
December 13, 2009 | Santa Cruz, CA@ The Church w/ Grooms
December 15, 2009 | San Francisco, CA @ Hemlock Tavern w/ Grooms

Hush Arbors

Yankee Reality–Keith Wood’s second album for Ecstatic Peace as Hush Arbors– dropped in October, and now Wood debuts the video for the mellotron-laced “Coming Home.” Pitchfork praised his “laid-back blend of all sorts of rusty Americana” as well as the production work of Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis.

For more Hush Arbors check out Stereogum, who premiered “The Devil Made You High” video along with a couple of MP3s in September.

Divider imageOUT NOW: Birds & Batteries “Up To No Good” EP

Birds & Batteries

Combining meticulously produced psych, synth-funk, Americana, aching electro, and unveiling more surprises upon closer listen SF’s Birds & Batteries return with their latest: the spooky, funky Up To No Good EP out now on Eightmaps. Stacked with addicting aching-electro/boogie jams the EP manages to convey a degree of mystery/magic amidst post-modern wreckage, combining the fun of late 70’s freak funk with a detached, studio cool of 80’s r&b.

You can stream the entire EP for FREE all week long at AOL Spinner.

More bon mots for Birds & Batteries:

“When Neil Young discovered the synthesizer, he made Trans. San Francisco’s Birds & Batteries demonstrate another -dare we say better?- way that combination could have worked.”RollingStone.com

“It’s rare that a band can remind you of Neil Young, Sparklehorse and The Legend of Zelda at the same time, but San Francisco’s left-field electric-folk band, Birds & Batteries traffics in both the nerdy and beautiful.”Williamette Week

“Like watching Halloween on a bunch of cough syrup and then having a dizzy and slowed dance party at the end.”The FADER
