Matilda Mann is a keen observer. She looks up. A short note on the wall gets posited to the back of her mind, a dog-eared scrap of paper scribbled with somebody’s half thought is dropped into song. Devoid of its original context. Wide-eyed but growing wiser, Matilda Mann daydreams because she finds daydreaming inspires her. Let it.
Fresh out of her studies at the Brit School (for good, for bad), Matilda released her debut EP ‘If That Makes Sense’ in February 2020, an collection of songs inspired by notes taken from conversations with friends, or those overheard during tube rides and whilst working in a pub.
Now 20 and championed by the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, NME, Notion, COLORS and Mahogony, Matilda has been steadily working on her follow up EP, ‘Because I Wanted You To Know’. Written, recorded and produced in London across the 2020 covid lockdown with Rich Cooper, Matt Maltese, Stephen Barnes, Jonah Summerfield, and Fryars, BIWYTK is a collection of songs with a message - "a message, that i wish someone had said to me when I was younger. That it’s okay to feel vulnerable, that we can all be naive at times, heartbreak sucks, that some things just aren’t meant to be and the world's system sucks."
