Wonder, hatred, hopefulness, greed — holidays really bring out the gamut of human emotion! The year-end enthusiasts behind Father/Daughter and Wax Nine Records want to feel them all with you. That’s why we put together Simply Having a Wonderful Compilation, featuring 13 brand new yuletide recordings from some of our favorite artists. With pop originals, emo standards, and even a 16th-century carol, this digital stocking stuffer benefiting Feeding America will have you ho ho ho-ing from home in no time.
Simply Having a Wonderful Compilation will be available on all streaming services on Friday, December 4, 2020. Proceeds will support contributing artists as well as Feeding America, a US–based nonprofit that is a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks that feed more than 46 million people through food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other community-based agencies.
Brand new compositions capped off a big 2020 for artists like Diet Cig, Maneka, Sad13, Illuminati Hotties, Tasha and Routine, the project from Chastity Belt's Annie Truscott and Jay Som's Melina Duterte. On the covers front, KAINA delivers a Sen Morimoto-produced “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” while D.C.’s Bacchae delivers a tempo-shifting romp through the Zombies’ “This Will Be Our Year.” Johanna Warren floats above a flute drone on traditional “Coventry Carol,” while Melkbelly slams through Everclear’s misanthropic bop “Hating You For Christmas.” Pronoun interprets tourmates Jimmy Eat World’s “12.23.95,” Pom Pom Squad brings a new deadpan to Wham!'s "Last Christmas,” and Ohmme gave us titular inspiration with a delightfully off kilter update to “Wonderful Christmastime.” From our stay-at-home to yours, we hope Simply Having a Wonderful Compilation provides a bright spot, however you choose to celebrate the holidays…at home, obviously.
