Brisbane, Australia's Hatchie has released a series of electrifying singles off of her much anticipated debut EP, Sugar & Spice. Today, she releases her latest single, "Sleep," and its companion music video. "Sleep" premiered today via Paste who are calling it "hazy and colorful". Often described as "dream pop," here she plays on the genre quite literally in both the track and the video.
Harriette Pilbeam, aka Hatchie, says: "'Sleep' is about feeling frustrated with someone who can't communicate their feelings. In this song I'm trying to coax someone into talking to me by any means necessary, even if it means visiting me in dreams.
For the Sleep video we decided to play on the idea that I'm trying to get someone to communicate with me in their sleep. We made a bunch of dreamy sets to focus on, like I'm talking to them in their dreams. At some points I'm really serious, at other points I'm almost teasing them because I'm so over trying to get them to talk."
Hatchie made a splash last year with the song "Try," which NPR called "hazy and misty, but with pop-rooted forward momentum." She followed that up with "Sure," which The FADER hailed as "transfixing and genuinely catchy - like, turn-of-the-century radio pop catchy" and Brooklyn Vegan called "one part '90s shoegaze and one part straight-ahead pop."
Sugar & Spice is available for pre-order now and due out May 25th via Double Double Whammy.
