For anyone who wanted the Junior Boys to get a little dirtier on ‘In The Morning’, or want to re-live the Moroder slow jams from the ‘Top Gun’ soundtrack again and again…Sebastien Tellier is here to fulfill your wildest fantasies.  ‘Sexuality’ lives up to its name, delivering suckerpunch slow jams, with Tellier’s breathy vocals supported by ghostly arpeggiators and sweet synth pads.  Produced by Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo (Daft Punk!!!), this is a masterful take on 80’s sex jams that’ll take your breath away.  Get sexual with 1, 2, 4, 7, 11.

On their 2nd LP, Takka Takka enlist Sean Greenhalgh of former tourmates Clap Your Hands Say Yeah for a layered, full sophomore disc full of guitar swells, multitracked vocals and artful writing reminiscent of David Byrne with the seething sophistication of later Fugazi. Featuring guest performances by members of the National, CYHSY and Bell, this is another talented New York band taking a big step forward creatively and turning out a beautiful, hypnotic album. Try 1, 2, 4. FCC CLEAN.

* Top 200 *

From Oakland, CA to Portland, OR, oddball cacophonous art rock outfit Experimental Dental School’s third release Jane Doe Loves Me is reminiscent of Captain Beefheart, Man Man, and Deerhoof (Deerhoof 's Greg Saunier actually mixed and mastered Jane Doe Loves Me). The tunes are schizophrenic, with tons of Ryan’s fractured rhythms and beats layered with horns, Shoko’s Casio riffs, creaks, and laser beams.  The songs take spastic turns from carnivalesque waltzes to Jesse’s prog-rock guitar scaling. Now a two-piece act with Shoko on drums since moving to Portland, the band has previously played with such artists as the Coachwhips and New Bloods. Check out 7, 5, 8, 2, 9, 1. FCC 1, 4.

more info Azeda Booth In Flesh Tones Absolutely Kosher

* Top 200 *

Making their Absolutely Kosher debut, eerie high-pitched vocals, beautiful spacey ambience, and glitchy, tribal drums all come together with six young musicians from Calgary on their first full-length.  Featuring two members from co-city band Women, Azeda Booth falls into a similar listen (and a crazy headphone listen, try it! It’s a trip…) as Sigur Ros, Fourtet, and Múm. Having opened for Battles and featured at the 2008 Sled Island Festival, Azeda Booth’s live shows have been a focal point of much of their recent attention.  Explore In Flesh Tones with 1, 2, 8 6.

* Top 200 & Hip Hop *

Riding on the energy of a hungry, restless MC and a live band driven by guitar, turntable and potent beats, High Decibels are reminiscent of late-80’s Delicious Vinyl 12”s and a sped-up Too Short, coming straight from the heart of Oakland to your radio.  After years of earning his reputation as one of the Bay’s best slam poets, frontman Duke Johnson got together with guitarist KC Booker and formed the High Decibels, a live hip hop band that keep things simple, fresh and endlessly catchy.  We like all tracks.  FCC clean.

GOING FOR ADDS 08/04 to 08/05

more info David Vandervelde Waiting for the Sunrise Secretly Canadian

* Top 200 *

After moving from Chicago to Brooklyn, David Vandervelde’s second effort is filled with isolated, sun-drenched classic folk-rock. Waiting for the Sunrise is full of sweet 60s & 70s California pop songs and handsomely high-pitched ballads, sliding effortlessly between hazy rock shuffles that open songs on the record, and warm synth harmonies. Fans of T.Rex, Dr. Dog, and Wilco (ex-member Jay Bennett co-writes a song on the album) take note, Vandervelde has extended himself musically and emotionally, creating an album that is from start to finish a complete joy to listen to. Start with 6, 3, 4, 5, 1, 2.

* Top 200 *

From the Montana-based producer/MC Nat Kendall (Eightrack Mind), 'Songbird Sing' is Kendall's second collaboration in his 'Presents' series, this time teaming up with soul singer Paige Rasmussen for an album of song-driven contemporary hip hop that focuses both on sweet acoustic melody and MPC bounce.  Kendall's laid-back flow and Rasmussen's sweet vocals work together in unexpected ways, and the tag-team works magic over 12 tracks on 'Songbird Sing'.  We like 1, 2, 7, 9.

more info Ponytail Ice Cream Spiritual We Are Free

* Top 200 *

We Are Free has been pumping out gems lately, and after unveiling Yeasayer and Indian Jewelry they reveal four young freak-rockers from Baltimore. The undulating, high-pitched voice of singer Molly provides structure to the authoritative drum crashes and eclectic, convulsive guitar. Somewhere between Deerhoof and Ecstatic Sunshine, 'Ice Cream Spiritual' was recorded in under ten hours. The album (Ponytail's 1st) is draining and euphoric and hints at their intense onstage performances. FCC Clean. We all scream! for 1, 4, 6, 2.

Sébastien Tellier Teams Up Sexuality and Sportswear!

Record Makers set to release Sébastien Tellier's Sexuality in North America, available exclusively at American Apparel stores nationwide!

MP3: http://terrorbird.alphapupserver.com/music/04SexualSportswear(Donovan%20remix)1.mp3

Record Makers is proud to announce an agreement has been reached with American Apparel, which will make Sexuality available at all American Apparel locations throughout North America in an exclusive pre-release beginning July 22nd (full release to follow in October). This is the first time in the history of the Los Angeles based clothier that music will be sold at store level, whilst marking the first foray of the Parisian indie-label Record Makers (founded in 2000 by Marc Teissier du Cros and Stéphane Elfassi) into the world of clothing retail.

This unique collaboration began with a special pre-release of the album at the retailer's German locations, before expanding to the rest of Europe and now North America. Sexuality will be available on CD and vinyl LP formats alongside the new single Divine (7" and 12" versions) in store and online at www.americanapparel.net. To promote Sexual Sportswear, the album's first single, American Apparel created two exclusive garments - the SexualiT and SexualiTank - which will be in stores for a limited time only.

Sebastien Tellier, essential music pioneer, and the unique voice of modern French electronic-edged pop, returns with a seminal new studio album Sexuality. Produced by Guy Manuel De Homem-Christo - astonishingly the first full artist project that he has produced outside of Daft Punk - this album is Tellier's musical statement of intent for lovemaking:
emotional, hypnotic and oozing with sensuality, a perfect fit for American Apparel.

Viva Radio, American Apparel's in-house radio station, will be showcasing Sebastien Tellier content throughout, programming tracks for in-store play and offering album preview streams online. In addition, Sebastien will be contributing select content for the Viva Radio airwaves in-store and online.

Sexuality and the accompanying singles, Sexual Sportswear and Divine, have been released already in Europe receiving critical acclaim from the likes of NME, The Times, The Observer, Mixmag, Pitchfork and VICE Magazine. Divine also made history as the first English-language song in 55 years to represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008.

04/07/2008 COLIN MELOY KICKS OFF SPRING SOLO TOUR TONIGHT!

Colin Meloy, lead singer/songwriter for The Decemberists, will embark on a solo tour of the United States on April 7th. Pre-sale tickets will be available beginning today at Noon EST at http://www.colinmeloy.tickets.musictoday.com. Singer-songwriter Laura Gibson will be the supporting act.

The tour coincides with the release of his debut solo album, Colin Meloy Sings Live! – due out April 8th on Kill Rock Stars. Available in both CD and double-gatefold LP configurations, Colin Meloy Sings Live! is a 14-song collection documenting his 2006 solo acoustic tour. The career-spanning set opens with “Devil’s Elbow,” a song that harkens back to Meloy’s first band, Tarkio, and closes with the rarity “Bandit Queen,” from The Decemberists’ 2006 EP, Picaresqueties. Along the way, Meloy performs material from The Decemberists’ three full-length Kill Rock Stars albums, debuts two new compositions (“Dracula’s Daughter” and “Wonder”) and entertains the audience with banter, at one point even coaxing them into a campfire singalong. Meloy weaves bits of songs by The Smiths, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and REM into the proceedings and performs the traditional folk song “Barbara Allen” in a style reminiscent of Shirley Collins, the venerable British folk singer he paid homage to with the 2006 EP Colin Meloy Sings Shirley Collins. That EP – like its predecessor, 2005’s Colin Meloy Sings Morrissey – was sold only at his solo shows and has since become a collector’s item. And in that tradition, a new covers EP will be available on the upcoming tour: Colin Meloy Sings Sam Cooke, a collection of five Cooke songs, intimately arranged and performed by Colin, with Laura Gibson singing harmonies throughout.

Meloy wrapped up a short run of dates last night in the Pacific Northwest with The Decemberists. The itinerary for his solo tour is as follows:
